End-of-Life Care

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the most difficult experiences a family can face. At Agave Grove Animal Hospital, we provide end-of-life care with compassion, honesty, and respect, including guidance on quality of life, hospice and comfort care, and, when the time comes, a peaceful euthanasia at the hospital or in the comfort of your home.

Quality-of-Life Assessment

We use structured quality-of-life assessments that consider pain, appetite, hydration, hygiene, mobility, and engagement, and whether your pet is experiencing more good days than difficult ones.

Hospice and Comfort Care

When a condition cannot be cured, the focus of care shifts to comfort. Hospice care may include pain management, appetite and hydration support, assistance with mobility and hygiene, and practical guidance for caring for your pet at home. Many of these visits can be provided through our house call service.

Euthanasia at the Hospital or at Home

The procedure itself is peaceful. A sedative is given first, allowing your pet to relax into a deep sleep with you beside them, followed by the final medication, which takes effect gently within a few minutes. You are welcome to be present for all of the procedure, part of it, or none of it; there is no right or wrong choice. At the hospital, we provide a private room without waiting, and you may take as much time afterward as you need. At home, your pet remains in familiar surroundings with the people they love.

Aftercare

We can arrange private cremation with your pet’s ashes returned to you, communal cremation, or assist with home burial where local regulations allow. These arrangements can be made in advance so that no decisions need to be made on the day itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know when it is the right time?

There is rarely a single perfect moment. One helpful measure is when difficult days begin to outnumber good ones, or when your pet can no longer enjoy the activities that defined them. We will help you evaluate your pet’s quality of life honestly and support your decision without pressure in either direction.

What does end-of-life care cost?

We provide a clear estimate in advance that includes the visit, the procedure, and the aftercare you choose. Payment is handled before the appointment so that nothing is required of you afterward.

Do you offer grief support resources?

Yes. We can share pet-loss support resources, including support lines and local groups, and we are always available to talk. The loss of a pet is a genuine loss, and we understand that grief takes time.
